Junya Ishigami - how small? how vast? how architecture grows
My 3 Draft models
Final model
                                                     Research and Reflection
My strategy choice is an architecture vast and small. My research is based on Junya Ishigami’s exhibition catalog “how small? how vast? how architecture grows”. In this catalog, I find many very interesting model design concept. I like the way he used very simple material such as paper and wood stick to create small architecture models. “His approach, which combines scientific and poetic elements, forms the basis for a dreamlike creative process that transforms dreams into reality.”(Chin, 2014) I really like the details on his model, although they are very small and simple, they still contains some interesting architecture detail such as the junction points between wood sticks or the stairs in the building. There is a lot of empty spaces in his model which allow audience to see through the object, I think it shows a strong 3D perspective. His design is also very different from traditional architecture, he didn't focus on realism, but creativity, “Junya Ishigami‘s work process is strictly methodical and oriented toward expanding the existing boundaries between design, architecture, and geography.”(Chin, 2014)
Using the concept from Junya Ishigami’s design, combined with some buildings in Sydney, I built my models. My final model took inspiration from the bus station in Central. I used wood sticks as main supporting structure, which support a paper roof on top of it. Building those models was a great experience for me, I really enjoy the process.
